14:15 YORK
The first leg of Thursday's 4 To Win is the Goffs UK Stakes over 6f.
While it’s not the most original selection, the obvious choice is the best-rated horse in the contest, Devious Company .
Trained by Tom Dascombe, he was successful in his first two career starts, both of which came at Haydock. Two gallant seconds then followed in Group 2 races – one at Newmarket and the other at Goodwood.
He’s clearly smart and should take all of the beating.
15:45 YORK
The Galtres Stakes is a race for fillies and mares over 1m 4f.
Gold Wand has done little wrong in her career so far except for her run in the Oaks, where she didn’t really handle the undulations of the Epsom track.
She was narrowly beaten in a Listed race at York at the back end of July and steps up in trip again here, which looks as though it will suit her.
At a bigger price, Golden Pass could be of interest for trainer Hugo Palmer and jockey Ben Curtis.
She’s only been out twice in her life, once last year and once this year, when she was successful at Beverley. She does have to step up on what she’s shown so far, but has plenty of scope and is the type to keep progressing.
16:20 YORK
The Nursery Handicap over 7f looks very competitive on paper.
As is so often the case in this type of race, there could be a few improvers and well-handicapped horses, none of which appeal more than Bonnyrigg for Betway ambassador Andrew Balding.
He has run twice in his career, with both starts coming at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course. He was second on his debut but stepped up markedly, as is common with juveniles from that yard, to win nicely on his second start.
This extra furlong looks as though it’ll be to his liking, so I do expect him to go well.
Quarantini ran well at Goodwood in a Nursery last time out when things didn’t go to plan, and remains well treated off a mark of 71.
16:50 YORK
The final race on Thursday’s card at York is a Fillies’ Handicap over 7f.
Despite having to give huge lumps of weight away to most of the field, Anna Nerium is clear on ratings and does have lots of ability.
She was once rated 109 and is now down to a mark of 104, while her last winning mark was 106 in a Group 3 at Epsom in June 2019. She handles soft ground and has Ryan Moore on board.
If there’s any horse she can’t afford to give the weight away to, it’s Lawahed , who bolted up last time at Haydock with cut in the ground.
She also finished second behind two smart horses on her first two starts. William Haggas is a man to follow at this meeting and will no doubt have had this race in mind for his filly.
