Cincinnati Reds to beat Detroit Tigers

The Reds are 4-6 over their last 10 but still hold the final wild card spot in the National League thanks to an impressive charge in August.

They should beat Detroit in the first of this three-game series on Friday, with Vladimir Gutierrez on the mound.

The rookie is 9-5 on the season with a 4.03 ERA. He is coming off a tough loss at Miami in his last game but had given up no more than two runs in his six starts prior to that.

Starting for Detroit will be Tyler Alexander, who has flipped between the bullpen and rotation this year. He is 2-2 with a 4.34 ERA, and has given up 12 runs over his five most recent starts.

Philadelphia Phillies to beat Miami Marlins

The Phillies own the longest win streak in the majors heading into Friday night, with their six straight wins taking them to within two games of Atlanta at the top of the NL East.

They should beat divisional rivals Miami in the first of this three-game set as Kyle Gibson gets the start.

Gibson is 4-2 for Philadelphia since his trade from Texas, and has pitched particularly well in his last two starts, giving up just a single run over 14 total innings against San Diego and Arizona.

On the mound for Miami will be talented southpaw Jesus Luzardo, who is enduring a tough season at 5-7 with a 7.19 ERA.

The Phillies have the advantage with both the bat and ball and should come away with their seventh straight at LoanDepot Park.

Tampa Bay Rays to beat Minnesota Twins

Tampa has lost its last two but remains in a great position to claim a second straight AL East title with a 6.5-game lead over the Yankees.

Starter Michael Wacha isn’t having the best of seasons – he is 2-4 with a 5.70 ERA – but the Rays have a 11-7 record when he starts the game.

Wacha also has the edge on opposite number Randy Dobnak, who is 1-6 on the season with a 7.83 ERA.

Dobnak has not pitched since June 19 due to a finger injury, and the Twins have fallen to the bottom of the AL Central in his absence.

Colorado Rockies to beat Atlanta Braves

The Braves are clearly the better team overall here, but this looks a great price for the home-happy Rockies to take game one of this three-game series.

Colorado is highly unlikely to make the postseason with a 10.5-game deficit on the wild card spots in the National League, but it owns one of the best home records on the Senior Circuit at 43-23.

Starting for the Rockies on Friday will be Antonio Senzatela, whose 3-9 record and 4.18 ERA are unimpressive, but he is coming off a strong three-game run in which he has given up just three runs over 20 total innings.

On the mound for Atlanta will be Huascar Ynoa, who is 4-4 on the season with a 2.90 ERA, but has taken the loss in his last two starts.

If Senzatela keeps up his recent form and the Rockies’ bats wake up at Coors Field, as they usually do, it could be a tough night for the NL East-leading Braves.
