Colorado Rockies to beat Pittsburgh Pirates

A one-hit shutout from German Marquez saw Colorado wrap up this three-game set with one to spare on Tuesday, and the brooms should come out tonight.

The Rockies own one of the worst records in the National League, but 27 of their 33 wins have come at Coors Field.

The Pirates, meanwhile, have won just 13 times on the road this year and only Arizona has a worse overall record on the Senior Circuit than their 29-49.

Jon Gray starts for Colorado on Wednesday. He is 4-6 on the season but has kept his ERA at a respectable 3.97.

On the mount for Pittsburgh will be Chad Kuhl, who has earned wins in his last two starts but remains 2-4 on the year with an elevated 5.05 ERA.

Kuhl has struggled on the road this season – he is 1-3 with a 6.04 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP away.

Washington Nationals to beat Tampa Bay Rays

Washington is one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, winning 13 of its last 16 games to climb back over .500 and into contention in the NL East.

The main story for the Nats has been the explosion of Kyle Schwarber, who has mashed 16 homers over his last 18 games to tie a major league record and move into a share of the NL lead.

He hit his seventh leadoff homer of the season on Tuesday to help the Nationals win the first of this two-game set, and this looks a good price for them to wrap up a sweep.

Starter Jon Lester has had a rocky season so far, going 1-3 over 11 starts with a 4.99 ERA, and is coming off a tough loss in which he gave up five runs in 2.1 innings against Miami.

He tends to perform much better at home, though – his ERA drops to 3.82 at Nationals Park, and he claimed his only win of the season there just two games ago.

This will be a bullpen game for Tampa, with Drew Rasmussen set for his first start for the club since arriving from Milwaukee.

A hot Nationals offense is enough to back them for a fourth straight win in this one.

Atlanta Braves to beat New York Mets

The Mets won the first game of this three-game set 4-3 on Tuesday, but Atlanta looks well placed to level things up here.

Max Fried will be on the mound for the Braves after being activated from the 10-day IL. He is 4-4 on the season but is coming off his best start of the year, giving up just two hits and a solitary run over seven innings against the Cardinals.

The southpaw has earned three of his four wins at Truist Park and owns a 3.63 ERA at home. He did take a loss to the Mets there earlier this season, but that was down to a lack of offensive support as he gave up just one run over six innings.

Starting for the Mets will be David Peterson, who owns a 2-5 record and a 4.95 ERA in 2021. He is 0-3 on the road this season, and gave up five hits in four innings in a no-decision in Atlanta in May.

With a clear advantage on the mound, Atlanta should be able to force a rubber match against its NL East rivals.

Chicago White Sox to beat Minnesota Twins

AL Central leader Chicago has been slumping of late but has now won two in a row thanks to an impressive major league debut from Gavin Sheets on Tuesday.

The Sox topped the Twins 7-6 in the first of this three-game divisional series as Sheets registered two hits and a couple of RBIs.

It will be Dylan Cease who gets the start for Chicago in game two, and he comes in on the back of three wins over his last four outings.

The 25-year-old is now 6-3 with a 3.81 ERA on the season, including a 3-0 record at home where his ERA drops to an impressive 1.63.

Starting for Minnesota on Wednesday is Bailey Ober, who has taken five no-decisions in five starts this season with a 4.64 ERA.

Ober gave up five runs in five innings against Chicago back in May, and is yet to go more than five innings this year.

A rejuvenated Chicago offense should give Cease the run support he needs to wrap up the series in this one.
