Chicago White Sox to beat Kansas City Royals

The White Sox beat the Royals 7-1 to take the lead in this three-game series on Tuesday, and their MLB-best 38-18 home record suggests they’ll follow that up with another win here.

The Royals are fourth in the AL Central at 45-60 on the season, and their 17-35 road record is the worst in the entire American League.

On the mound for Chicago will be Lucas Giolito, who boasts an 8-7 record and a 3.67 ERA. He’s allowed just three earned runs in 21 total innings across his last three starts.

Giolito will face Carlos Hernandez, who is coming off a strong outing against the White Sox in which he pitched six scoreless innings in a win. Hernandez’s ERA is still at 4.98, however, and before that start against Chicago he hadn’t gone five innings in a single game all season.

Atlanta Braves to beat St. Louis Cardinals

Atlanta took the first game of this series 6-1 on Tuesday and should again have the upper hand on Wednesday behind the arm of Drew Smyly.

The lefty has a 4.40 ERA and a 7-3 record, having gone 5-0 in his last 10 starts since the start of June.

Smyly hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a game since 26 May, while his opposite number on Wednesday, J.A. Happ, has struggled recently.

Happ gave up nine runs on 10 hits in just 3.1 innings of work in his last start, and his ERA has now climbed to 6.77.

With these teams possessing almost identical records (53-54 and 53-53) and having both won five of their last 10 games, the pitching advantage should be enough to earn the Braves the win.

Colorado Rockies to beat Chicago Cubs

The Cubs have lost six of their last seven games and look set for another defeat in the second of this three-game set against the Rockies.

Chicago blew up its roster at the trade deadline, sending away several players including Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez and Craig Kimbrel.

The Rockies, meanwhile, held fire and kept all the players they were expected to trade away, including Jon Gray, who gets the start in this game against Chicago.

Gray is having a strong season, with a 7-6 record and a 3.62 ERA. He hasn’t taken a loss in his last seven starts and has given up just seven runs across his last four.

He takes on Alec Mills, who boasts a 4-4 record and a 4.55 ERA. The right-hander has gone 1-3 in his last five starts and will struggle for run support in this one after his team gutted its offense.

Los Angeles Dodgers to beat Houston Astros

The Dodgers lost the first of this two-game set against the Astros on Tuesday, but they should tie the series on Wednesday behind the arm of their big trade-deadline acquisition, Max Scherzer.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner is having another great season, going 8-4 with a 2.76 ERA. He’s avoided the loss in eight consecutive starts coming into his Dodger debut.

The Astros have won seven of their last 10 games, but they are coming off a 2-1 series defeat to the San Francisco Giants and have a clear disadvantage on the mound in this one.

Starter Jake Odorizzi is 4-5 on the season with a solid 4.30 ERA, but he’s allowed 10 earned runs in just over 12 innings across his last three starts.
