Week 4 kicks off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals. Clearly, this isn’t the most exciting matchup of the week - one could argue it's the most boring game on the entire slate.
There are, however, plenty of NFL betting opportunities available in this game. Here are the four best bets.
Bengals -7.5
Playing at home on a short week, it’s clear the Bengals have the edge in this game. Offensively, they have plenty of playmakers that will be effective against the weak Jaguars defense.
The Cincinnati defense’s strength is their pass rush, while the Jaguars’ weakness is their offensive line, so this should be another game where quarterback Trevor Lawrence is under duress.
The Jaguars have failed to cover the spread this season, while the Bengals are 2-1 against the spread and should move to 3-1.
First-half spread: Bengals -4
The Bengals average more first-half points than the Jaguars, though the difference is pretty negligible. What is worth discussing, however, is each team’s defense. The Bengals are fifth in first-half scoring defense, allowing just 7.0 points, while the Jaguars rank 25th, allowing 14.7.
The pass rush for the Bengals will cause problems early in this game, allowing Cincinnati to take an early lead and cover the first-half spread.
Joe Mixon anytime touchdown
The Jaguars are giving up a ton of production to running backs this season. So far, they have allowed four rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown to running backs.
Joe Mixon will clearly be heavily involved. He has averaged 24.3 touches per game over three weeks. Assuming he gets another heavy workload on Thursday, he should be rewarded with at least one touchdown.
Marvin Jones anytime touchdown
The odds for a Marvin Jones touchdown are worth putting a little money on. The Jaguars have been terrible this season and have only five red zone drives through three weeks. But should be able to score against Cincinnati on a short week.
The Jaguars have thrown seven passes to five rushing attempts in the red zone, and four of those passes have gone to Jones, who also leads the team in overall targets. If there’s a receiving touchdown from Jacksonville in this game, it’s clear he has the best shot at it.
