National Anthem length: Under 119.5 seconds
At this year’s Super Bowl, The Star-Spangled Banner will be performed by the duet of country singer Eric Church and R&B artist Jazmine Sullivan.
It’s always worth looking for previous examples of the chosen performers belting out the anthem, and although there’s no such evidence of Church in action, there are a couple of Sullivan’s renditions on YouTube.
Her performance at a 2014 NBA game clocked in at 1 minute 45 seconds, and at the 2016 NHL All-Star Game she breezed through the anthem in a speedy 1 minute 39 seconds.
Two of the last three national anthem performances have gone under two minutes – including Demi Lovato’s 1 minute 50 second rendition a year ago – and this one should follow that trend.
Half-time show first song: Can’t Feel My Face
The Weeknd headlines this year’s half-time show, and Blinding Lights is the favourite to be the song that kicks off his performance.
The smash hit from his latest album has been used heavily in the promo videos advertising the half-time show, but it’s perhaps better suited to close the show than to open it.
Instead, opt for Can’t Feel My Face, the 2015 single that went 8x Platinum in the US and will be familiar to pretty much everyone watching.
One of The Weeknd’s more upbeat hits, Can’t Feel My Face will bring high energy immediately and also ties in nicely with the visual performance art – in which his face has been gradually deteriorating – that has been a part of his recent performances.
Gatorade shower colour: Orange
The Kansas City Chiefs doused coach Andy Reid in orange Gatorade when they won last year’s Super Bowl, so it’s no surprise that the same colour is the clear favourite in this market for Sunday.
Orange is surely the likeliest result if the Chiefs triumph again, and history suggests it would be worth a bet even if Kansas City weren’t playing in the game this year.
Of the last nine occasions when there has been a Gatorade shower at the end of the game, orange has been the colour of choice on five occasions.
Blue also deserves a mention at , given that it has landed in two of the past six years.
Those were both after New England Patriots victories when Tom Brady was their quarterback, so perhaps he’s brought his favourite flavour over to his new team in Tampa Bay.
