Montreal Canadiens to win 

The Calgary Flames have won each of their last two games, including a dramatic overtime winner against Toronto on Tuesday night. They got big-time performances out of Jacob Markstrom, Johnny Gaudreau and Milan Lucic, who was playing his 1,000th game, which certainly gave the Flames players some extra jump.

It’s going to be harder to replicate that in the second of back-to-back road games against the Canadiens, who are also coming off of a win over the Maple Leafs, but with the benefit of a day’s rest and being on home ice.

We’re at the stage of the season where any day off is an important one. The condensed schedule is showing how much it can negatively impact teams, no matter where they sit in the standings.

In most back-to-back scenarios, I’m going to favor the team on rest. The Flames are 1-5-1 in the second leg of back-to-backs this season. Even though Montreal has a so-so record on a day’s rest – 11-7-7 – I like their chances a lot better based on Calgary’s struggles on short rest and the fact that they likely go with a goaltender other than Jacob Markstrom.

The schedule has become one of the biggest factors in my betting decisions and this set-up favors the Habs.

Under 2.5 Calgary goals 

One of the other key stats from the Flames’ back-to-back results is that they often lose by multiple goals. They’re giving up an average of four goals per game in the second half of their seven back-to-backs, while only scoring two.

Additionally, with the potential for Jake Allen to start another game for Montreal, goals have been hard to come by against him when these two teams meet. He has yet to beat the Flames in two prior starts, but has only allowed three goals total against them so far in the season.

Allen looked pretty strong in the win over Toronto, too.

Corey Perry to score anytime 

Previous games between these two teams have been low-scoring affairs and it’s likely going to take some gritty goals to get the job done.

The 35-year-old veteran has had a knack for scoring goals in tight to the net. He’s scored nine times so far this season and has two points in four games against the Flames so far this season.

Not a whole lot of Habs have had great success putting pucks in the net this series, but I like the way Perry plays in a tight-checking game like this one.

Under 58.5 shots on goal 

The Flames and Canadiens have met four times so far this season, combining for just 15 goals. In two of those games they had more than 58.5 shots on goal and in two they had well under.

Given the schedule and the way these two teams have been playing of late, I have a hard time seeing this being a shot fest. The Flames are almost certainly going to play it conservative on short rest and likely without their starting goalie getting into the game. They can make it really difficult to get pucks through when they play that way.

Not a lot of the games between these two teams have been flashy or entertaining and this one might be the toughest of the bunch.
