Florida Panthers to beat Montreal Canadiens 1.40
The Montreal Canadiens have been playing much better of late, but so have the Florida Panthers. Inching ever closer to both respectability and a wild card spot, the Panthers have a big hill to climb and all their opponents have games in hand.
That means they can’t throw away games like this against opponents at the bottom of the league’s standings, especially when they’re as ravaged by injuries as the Canadiens are. If the Panthers are going to salvage their season, they need this game.
Andrei Svechnikov (Carolina Hurricanes) to score anytime vs Minnesota Wild 2.62
One of the league’s most dangerous snipers, Svechnikov is ice cold since the calendar changed over to 2023. Without a goal in eight straight games, it’s not for lack of trying that Svechnikov hasn’t lit the lamp so far. He ranks 19th in the NHL over that time with 3.79 expected goals, has put 37 shots on net, and 61 shot attempts overall.
Svech has been throwing everything and the kitchen sink at the net, and just hasn’t got the right bounce. That’s eventually going to turn in his favour, why not now?
Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning) to score anytime vs Edmonton Oilers 2.40
Talking about snakebitten players, Steven Stamkos has just two goals in his last 14 games after scoring 16 in his first 28 this season. He hasn’t been a passenger by any means - he’s collected 13 assists over that time - so he’s still just above a point per game while ice cold from a shooting perspective.
Stamkos ranks 25th in the NHL in expected goals in 2023 with 3.63 expected goals, putting 28 shots on net and firing 57 shot attempts overall. Stamkos is just a single goal away from 500 in his career, and I say he gets it against the Oilers.
Zach Hyman (Edmonton Oilers) to score anytime vs Tampa Bay Lightning 2.62
It’s been another dream season for Zach Hyman. Riding shotgun with the best player in the sport has its benefits, and Hyman is doing an even better job of taking advantage than he did last year, just four points behind his point total from last year in 31 fewer games.
Hyman has drastically improved his shot rate, and as a result he’s scoring at a career-high pace while posting a slightly below career average shooting percentage. Since the calendar turned to 2023, Hyman trails only Jack Hughes in expected goals with 5.97, but has only scored four over that time. With the extra scoring threat of Evander Kane back in the Oilers lineup, it opens up more space for Hyman as well.
