Is there going to be anything left that isn’t bolted down come the NHL’s trade deadline tomorrow? A flurry of trades over the last 10 days have given us perhaps the busiest trade deadline period in recent memory, with a plethora of first-round picks flying around, along with gigantic name players like Ryan O’Reilly, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Patrick Kane changing teams. Hopefully the rest of the season can live up to this excitement.

Buffalo Sabres to beat Boston Bruins

They can’t keep getting away with it, can they? There’s no doubt that the Boston Bruins are the team to beat this year, but after visiting both Alberta teams in a back-to-back set only to be heavily outplayed and win both games, you have to wonder when the good fortune runs out.

The Boston Bruins have out-performed their expected goals for ratio this season by almost 10 percentage points, with a 64 per cent goal share on a 54.4 per cent expected goal share. The bill always comes due on that sort of thing. With the upstart Sabres and their league-leading offence in Boston, that could start now.

Florida Panthers to beat Nashville Predators

The Panthers are increasingly desperate to climb into the Wild Card race in the Eastern Conference. While they’re winning some big games, their inconsistency has stopped them from truly going on a run, while all the teams around them are playing just as well or better, with games in hand.

Against a team that just sold off some major assets, the Panthers have to win this one. The high-flying offence we saw last season should be able to burst through a defence that used to be great, but is now just Roman Josi and some guys.

Ottawa Senators to beat New York Rangers

Buckle your seat belt, the Ottawa Senators are threatening to make a run here. Two statement games against the Detroit Red Wings where the Senators’ outscored their opponents 12-3 have pushed them within striking distance of the Eastern Wild Card race.

The Sens’ top players are firing on all cylinders, with Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, and Claude Giroux leading the way for them. The New York Rangers loaded up to get Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko, but don’t be surprised if it takes them a little bit to gel in their new locations, so this is a major opportunity for Ottawa.

Nick Suzuki (Montreal Canadiens) to score 1+ point vs Los Angeles Kings

Nick Suzuki has played relatively consistent hockey under trying circumstances, just like last season, but he’s had long periods of scoring basically at will, and periods where it seems like nothing can go right for him offensively. Right now though, he’s riding a four-game point streak, and is the biggest factor in all the Habs’ offence.

The LA Kings were reportedly rattled to a man by the trade of franchise legend Jonathan Quick to Columbus, so don’t be surprised to see a bit of a weird start for them to this game. That, and the instant chemistry Suzuki seemed to have with new acquisition Denis Gurianov, provide a good opportunity for him to extend his point streak to five.
