Could the races for Wild Card spots be any closer? One point separates the Florida Panthers, New York Islanders, and Pittsburgh Penguins, who have all played 78 games. Out West, the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets are tied for the final Wild Card spot, with the Jets holding a game in hand. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year, every game for these teams is do or die!

Under 5.5 goals in Washington Capitals vs Montreal Canadiens

Two teams that have scored a combined six goals in their previous three games each, the Capitals and Canadiens are in freefall to end the season. For the Capitals, it’s their first time missing the playoffs since 2013-14, and just the second time since the 2007-08 season. It’s been a long descent from contention for the Caps since they won it all in 2018.

For the Canadiens, the rebuilding team over-performed all season long, and with this latest wave of injuries taking out Kirby Dach, Rafael Harvey-Pinard, David Savard, and Alex Belzile, they’re just too thin to compete. Sam Montembeault should be good for a bounce-back game after the Florida debacle, but neither team looks primed to score much.

Ottawa Senators to beat Florida Panthers

Two teams that thrive on chaotic hockey, the Panthers are far ahead of the Senators in terms of competitiveness, but the Sens have found ways for years to upset superior teams thanks to their lethal powerplay and killer counter-attack.

The Panthers have won four straight as they continue to erase their awful first half of the season and solidify a playoff spot in the Eastern Wild Card race, but nothing in this league is that easy. The Panthers are heavy, heavy favourites in this matchup, but they could easily come out on top.

Tampa Bay Lightning to beat New York Islanders

After the Lightning got trounced by the New York Rangers on Wednesday night, with a rare poor performance from Andrei Vasilevskiy on top of it all, expect the Bolts to come out angry against the New York Islanders tonight.

Both the Lightning and Islanders are winning just half their games lately, but the Lightning are a vastly better team overall, and should be ramping up their play now as they inch closer to the postseason. It’s not often you can get a big payout from betting on a team as good as Tampa is.

Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins) to score anytime vs Minnesota Wild

Staring down the possibility of missing the playoffs for just the second time in his career - the first time since he was a rookie - Crosby has been doing his best to carry the Penguins on his back while they’re plagued with inconsistency and third period meltdowns. Standing in his way tonight is one of his best friends, Marc-Andre Fleury.

Over the last month, Crosby is ninth in the NHL in individual expected goals with 8.21 in all situations, but has managed to score just four times. Worse yet, he’s mired in a six-game goal drought when his team needs it most. Tonight’s the night.
