Nothing has been clarified in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race. Just when teams like the Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings look out, losing streaks for other teams open the pathway again. Seven teams are separated by seven points as we drift closer to the end of the season.

In the West, Winnipeg and Calgary are locked in a battle of who can play worse down the stretch and lose out on a playoff berth, only time will tell.

Buffalo Sabres to beat Dallas Stars

After pushing their way up the standings and taking a Wild Card spot for a few days, it’s been rough going for the Sabres as they’ve lost some important games lately, some of them they definitely should have won. But hope isn’t lost in arguably America’s most rabid hockey market, even against a legit contender like the Dallas Stars.

The Stars are one of the top teams in the West, but the West is not nearly as strong as the East this year, and Buffalo’s incredible offence could shock the Stars if they’re not careful. Helping the Sabres here is that they’re better on the road than on home ice this season, and the Stars haven’t been great lately either, losing six of their last 10.

With the odds heavily favouring Dallas, a bet on Buffalo isn’t a bad idea.

Montreal Canadiens to beat New York Rangers

The Rangers loaded up at the deadline, adding big name players of the past decade, but maybe not the best players available for right now. The Rangers have lost six of the last 10, while the Canadiens have lost seven of the last 10. One of these teams is a cup contender and the other is tanking with 10 players on the injured list.

While the Rangers are trying to find chemistry with the new additions, they remain a pretty mediocre team at even strength. While they were worse in that area last year, Igor Shesterkin papered over it with one of the best goaltending seasons since Dominik Hasek was in his prime, and this year he’s been just okay. This one has major upset potential, and the payout for a Habs win is huge.

Vegas Golden Knights to beat Tampa Bay Lightning

After dropping their game against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday in a tight affair, the Golden Knights face a Lightning team likely to be without Victor Hedman, which should tip the scales in their favour, especially with how the Lightning have played lately.

Sure, the Bolts won their last game, but they’ve been coasting hard as the playoffs approach. They know they’re 11 points clear of their closest competition for a top-three spot in the Atlantic, and I don’t think they care about home ice. They know how to flip the switch in the playoffs.

Edmonton Oilers to beat Boston Bruins

The Bruins are winners of 10 straight heading into this one, and have lost just two games all year in regulation. With that said, the Oilers played them hard in their last meeting, and Connor McDavid just keeps pushing the envelope further. Can he get to 70 goals?

The Bruins are also defying expectations to such a ridiculous degree. They’re a great team, of course, but can any team control goals at a rate 10 percentage points higher than their actual expected goal ratio for a full season? At some point this run will stop.
