There’s no shortage of intriguing storylines in the final week of the NHL’s 2022-23 regular season, and as such there’s no shortage of betting opportunities. The last week always has some wild results, with some teams resting star players, some poor teams playing spoiler, and some surprise teams finishing strong in seasons where it didn’t look like they had it in them. The Western Wild Card race is all but settled, but the East is still wide open with four teams fighting for two spots. Let’s see who gets there.

Washington Capitals to beat Boston Bruins 3.25

The Bruins have been essentially invincible at home this season, but with nothing left to really play for, a relatively old roster, and a virtual gimme win to break the NHL record for points in a season against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, don’t be surprised if the Bruins take this game a little lightly.

The Capitals have nothing to play for either, but Alex Ovechkin is still chasing that goal record, and the payout potential here is very strong considering the Bruins very well may just take the game off.

Buffalo Sabres to beat New Jersey Devils 2.75

Do you believe? It would be arguably the best story in the NHL this season, but the Buffalo Sabres are making a late charge to the playoffs with rookie goaltender Devon Levi, who is 4-1-0 in his first five starts in the NHL. If Buffalo wins out the rest of their season, they can get to 93 points. They would need both the Islanders and Penguins to get fewer than two and three points respectively through the rest of their games to steal the last Wild Card spot, but it’s theoretically still possible.

The Devils meanwhile, have been struggling a bit of late, winning just half their games while they’re competing not only for home ice in the playoffs, but are only one point behind Carolina for the division lead. These games still matter for New Jersey, so this is far from a gimme for Buffalo.

Toronto Maple Leafs to beat Tampa Bay Lightning 2.20

After a big drop in play post-trade deadline, the Maple Leafs are back to who they were before as their new players fully integrate into the team philosophy. Despite salary cap issues and goalie injuries, the Leafs have been humming lately, with their best players all getting hot at the right time.

The Lightning, meanwhile, have been terrible. Are they coasting into the playoffs like they have for the last two seasons? Perhaps, but this season is ending in a far worse state than the last couple. In 2021, the Bolts finished the year with three straight losses before they won the cup, and last year they played pretty poorly down the stretch but won seven of their last 10 anyway. This year, they’re playing horrible and losing as well. Is this team finally tired after going the distance three straight years?

Seattle Kraken to beat Vegas Golden Knights 2.25

The win/loss record doesn’t look bad for the Golden Knights down the stretch, but the underlying numbers are alarming. As is usually the case when Mark Stone is out, the team simply isn’t anywhere close to the same as it was. Unfortunately for the Golden Knights, Stone has missed 111 games in the regular season over the past three seasons.

Seattle, meanwhile, keeps pushing the envelope with the first 100-point season of their franchise’s history, and they’ve won five straight heading into this one. On the second-half of a back-to-back set, the Kraken are at a disadvantage there for sure, but they have played better than the Golden Knights lately, and have the opportunity to move out of the Wild Card spot and into third place should they win out the season.
