One month ago, five of the seven teams in the race for the Eastern Conference Wild Card spots had a superior points percentage to the Florida Panthers, who were stuck at 22nd in the NHL, with the Ottawa Senators hot on their tails. Nowadays, none of those teams have been accumulating points at a better rate than the Panthers, who have gone from a position of severe weakness, with all their competition having games in hand, to a position of strength.

Part of that has been the Panthers playing well, but all of the Penguins, Capitals, Sabres, Red Wings, and Senators have fallen off severely. It’s a great situation for Florida, but they can make it an even better story if they maintain this pace.

David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins) and Brady Tkachuk (Ottawa Senators) to both score 1+ goals 4.00

It was hard to imagine that Pastrnak would somehow become even better than he has been the last few seasons, but here we are on the verge of his first 50-goal season. As much of a guarantee to score as any player in the league not named Connor McDavid, Pastrnak is a versatile weapon who blends shot volume with elite sniping skills.

While the Sens have started to fall out of the playoff picture of late, it hasn’t been due to the play of their captain. With four goals and six points in his last four games, Tkachuk continues to add onto his career-best season, tying his career high in goals with a second-straight 30-goal campaign, and already a career high in points. Against a team like the Bruins, Tkachuk’s net-front presence will be of utmost importance.

Montreal Canadiens to beat Tampa Bay Lightning 3.00

The Habs have been struggling in March. The injuries have finally caught up with the team in terms of points, and there’s no doubt that the strength of their schedule has been a big part of that. However, a hot run of shooting percentage and the team’s never-say-die attitude has kept them in games that they should have been eaten alive in.

Another factor for the Habs lately has been that their goaltending hasn’t been saving the day, but that can change at the drop of a dime. It’ll be a bigger challenge than their last game against Tampa since it’s likely Andrei Vasilevskiy will be in goal, but the Lightning played a game in between these two meetings, so they should be the more tired team as well.

Brent Burns (Carolina Hurricanes) under 2.5 shots on goal vs New York Rangers 2.00

Normally, betting the over on Burns putting pucks on net is an easy win. He’s basically a gatling gun from the back end and has been ever since he was traded to the San Jose Sharks back in 2011. However, the Rangers as a team tend to give up more shot attempts from the middle than most contending teams.

The Hurricanes’ intense forecheck and cycle should provide their forwards a lot of opportunity to shoot on Igor Shesterkin, and when you combine that with Burns shooting slightly less often recently, the under makes sense here.

Pierre Engvall (New York Islanders) to score anytime vs Toronto Maple Leafs 4.00

It’s the classic story every fan knows is true: a player is traded away, and when he plays against his former team, he finds a way to get on the board. Engvall is getting just third-line ice time on Long Island, but he’s making the most of his new opportunity, with three goals in his last four games, and five points in seven games overall.

A consistent five-vs-five scorer the last few years in limited minutes, Engvall takes a lot of flak for being a giant that doesn’t play very physical, but he consistently finds ways to contribute, and no one should be surprised if he finds a way to do the same against Toronto.
