You’ve got classic rivalries stifled by wide gaps in talent, desperate teams on back-to-backs, titans of the East and West meeting, and the new-look Vancouver Canucks in their first game under their new coaching staff after weeks of embarrassing leaks out of the organization.

Whatever happens, Tuesday is going to be a wild night.

Boston Bruins to beat Montreal Canadiens 

Sometimes you have to pick the favourite. The Canadiens have been playing good hockey of late, for the team that they are. They have a never-say-die attitude that keeps them in games that they probably shouldn’t be in, but the Boston Bruins are on track for one of the best regular seasons in NHL history.

Even the Habs’ strong points like Sam Montembeault saving the third-most goals above expected per hour in the league this year, are no match for the Bruins, who have Linus Ullmark in the top spot.

Pittsburgh Penguins to beat Florida Panthers 

With the Panthers on the second-half of a back-to-back set with travel, the Penguins are heavily favoured in this one. The Panthers lost to the Rangers on Monday night in New York City before traveling to take on Sidney Crosby and company.

The Panthers have actually been playing perhaps their best hockey of the season of late, but they’re in a tough spot here with the back-to-back set against two tough Metropolitan Division teams, and they lost Sam Bennett to injury last night on top of it all.

Vegas Golden Knights to beat New Jersey Devils 

Two of the best teams in the league this season clash in Newark. While the Golden Knights have been a little inconsistent lately, and the Devils have been hot, the gap between these two is not large at all, but the betting line is.

The Devils are heavy favourites heading into the night, but they’re just 12-10-2 at home this season, doing most of their best work on the road. The Golden Knights are much the same, sporting an excellent 15-4-2 record on the road. In a battle between two road warriors, whoever is on home ice appears to be at a disadvantage.

Chicago Blackhawks to beat Vancouver Canucks 

Home ice advantage is nice to have, and a new coach in Rick Tocchet may give the Canucks a boost of energy. However, if you’re following this story, the players did not want Bruce Boudreau to be fired, and the lack of human decency by the Canucks’ organization during the transition has been ugly.

Meanwhile, the abysmal Blackhawks are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games, which creates a perfect scenario for a trap game. Sure, the Canucks’ players will be wanting to impress their new coach, but the team has been playing awful and, above all else, the players aren’t happy. I doubt this situation resolves itself quickly.
