We still have to wait until Friday for the NHL’s Trade Deadline, but it seems that almost all the big names have already been on the move. Timo Meier is a New Jersey Devil now, Vlad Tarasenko is a New York Ranger, Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway are Boston Bruins, and more. Will we have anything left on Friday for teams to do? We’ll find out I suppose.

Tampa Bay Lightning to beat Florida Panthers

Playing Brian Elliott against the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins, the Lightning scored first, then got trounced by a desperate team trying to make the playoffs. The game before that, they hung on for dear life as Andrei Vasilevskiy stole a game against the Red Wings, a desperate team trying to make the playoffs.

Tonight, the Lightning face another desperate team trying to make the playoffs. The Florida Panthers last faced the Lightning in their first game after the All-Star break, and spanked the Bolts 7-1.

There was a lot of talk this weekend that the Lightning seemed to be conserving energy on their weekend back-to-back to be ready for this one. Smashing Florida and hurting their playoff chances sure sounds like something a rival would love to do. We’ll find out.

Pittsburgh Penguins to beat Nashville Predators

The Nashville Predators have seen reality staring them in the face, and have entered sell mode as the trade deadline looms. The Pittsburgh Penguins, meanwhile, are trying to ride out the end of the careers of their franchise-defining trio of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang, hoping to sneak in another cup win.

It’s been a dismal stretch for the Penguins lately, but they finally got a big win against the Lightning, and they’re still in the playoff picture. They simply have way more to play for in this rematch of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final.

Calgary Flames to beat Boston Bruins

The Calgary Flames are possibly the most disappointing team in the NHL this season. The Western Conference is very weak overall, and they still haven’t been able to make any headway towards making the playoffs. They should be one of the best teams in the West, and instead they’re on the outside looking in.

Here, though, they actually get a little assist from their chief rivals, with the Edmonton Oilers playing against the Boston Bruins Monday night. The Oilers have their weaknesses, but at the very least they will make you skate to keep up with McDavid, and the rested Flames will have a great chance to take down a tired Bruins team.

Denis Gurianov (Montreal Canadiens) to score anytime vs San Jose Sharks

It’s possible that no one in the NHL needed a change of scenery more than Denis Gurianov. Any time a player has a multiple-season arc downwards in their level of play, there’s no way to avoid that they’re at least partially responsible for where they are, but Gurianov at one point in time produced offence in the 80th percentile of all NHL forwards.

Since his incredible performance in the bubble playoffs for Dallas, though, he hasn’t made good on that promise and, at 25 years old, he won’t have many chances left to show he can. Against Montreal, a team really lacking in one-shot goal scorers due to lack of talent and injury, he’s going to get a lot of opportunity, and could get the first-game jump as the Habs take on the Sharks.
