Connor McDavid and Alex Ovechkin both to score 1+ goals 

There is no team Connor McDavid has scored more goals against than the Calgary Flames. He has 23 goals and 40 points in 30 games against the Oilers’ Albertan rivals. It seems that the Edmonton captain gets rather juiced up for the Battle of Alberta.

With that in mind, I looked at some of the options to up the value of the bet a little bit and Betway is offering a pre-built prop that includes Alex Ovechkin.

After scoring two goals in the Caps’ opener, and with the Lightning looking a little leaky at the start of the season, I like the idea of Ovechkin getting a chance to light up the scoreboard once again. The Capitals captain passed Marcel Dionne with those two goals to become the NHL’s fifth all-time leading goal scorer and when Ovi gets hot, he often gets a little offensive run going. I’ll look for that to continue against the defending Stanley Cup Champions.

There are few guarantees in hockey and even fewer when you break it down to individual props, but I like the idea of taking on a little more risk and getting good value for doing so.

Cale Makar and Sebastian Aho both to score 1+ points 

When looking at props, I always like the points props because it puts a little less pressure on goal scoring, which is very difficult even for the best players. Points props give players two ways to help you out, with a goal or an assist, and there are a lot of players out there who can do it pretty consistently.

I saw this pre-built prop and really liked it for the value you’re getting on the bet. Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar has 14 points in 11 career games against the St. Louis Blues, tied for most against any team in his career. He did not register any points in the season-opening game after averaging a point per game last season. He’s the most dynamic defenseman in the game today, so I don’t expect him to be held off the score sheet again today, especially with the need for other Avs players to step up in the absence of Nathan MacKinnon.

Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho is also a point-per-game player against the Nashville Predators, with 16 points in 16 games, including 10 goals. Aho has become one of the NHL’s most reliable producers, averaging at or near a point-per-game in each of the last three seasons. With Nashville not looking as strong, they might be ripe for the picking for one of the league’s elite talents.

Nikolaj Ehlers to score 1+ points 

The Winnipeg Jets have a budding superstar in Ehlers who is one of the league’s fastest players and an utterly dynamic talent. I watched a lot of the Jets’ opening game against the Anaheim Ducks and Ehlers was all over the place. It just so happened that the Ducks had John Gibson in net, playing out of his mind and making goals hard to come by.

Ehlers accounted for eight shots on goal on his own. In games where he’s buzzing like that, more times than not he is going to get some points. The Danish star also has 11 points in 14 games against the Sharks. Additionally, San Jose will have a lot of new faces in the lineup tonight and don’t look like a particularly competitive team. The Jets should have some success and look for Ehlers to be at the heart of it.

Mitch Marner to score 2+ points 

The Maple Leafs were stymied by the Ottawa Senators two nights ago, with Anton Forsberg looking particularly sharp in net. While I expect the Sens to have plenty of juice for this game, too, I think Toronto’s going to play with a bit of a bad attitude after that loss. That’s usually not a good thing for their opponents.

Marner has one point through two games on the season, but he’s been a dominant performer against the Senators in his career. He has 30 points in 24 games against Ottawa, by far his most points against a single team over the course of his career. Also, despite his low point total, he’s accounted for 10 shots on goal through the first two games. Some of those are going to start going in sooner than later.
