Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid to score 1+ goals

With McDavid and Matthews playing teams that they have traditionally put up a lot of points against, I like the value being offered for both of them to score. McDavid has started the season red hot with a league-high 15 points, including seven goals in just six games played. Matthews, on the other hand, is off to a slower start after getting into the lineup late while recovering from wrist surgery.

McDavid has more points against the Vancouver Canucks than he does against any other team in the NHL with 51. The 16 goals he’s scored in his career against the Canucks marks the second highest total for him against any team in the NHL. No one has figured out how to slow him down this season, or any season for that matter.

Matthews has played the Red Wings 14 times in his career and has scored 12 goals against Detroit. It’s his highest career total against an American-based team. Matthews has just one goal and one assist this season and has a paltry 4.5 per cent shooting percentage. With a career shooting percentage north of 16 per cent, you have to figure pucks are going to start going in for the reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner.

Phillip Danault anytime goal scorer

Danault is known more for his defensive prowess than his goal scoring, but he’ll be playing the Montreal Canadiens for the first time since leaving the team in free agency. The kind of season Montreal has had seems to bring one twist of the knife after the other. A goal from the former Hab in a game between two evenly matched teams would be yet another gut punch in a season full of them.

Buyer beware, though. Danault is averaging just two shots on goal per game and has just one goal this season. Betting on him to score is not exactly a safe bet. Even thought I don’t think Danault has any ill will towards the Habs, I think there’s always an extra motivation to put one in against your former team. Tread carefully, but if you enjoy schadenfreude, this is the bet for you.

Leon Draisaitl to score 2+ points

Just like McDavid, Draisaitl has had a ton of success against the Vancouver Canucks. In 36 games, Draisaitl has 41 points, which is tied for the most he’s scored against a single team in the NHL.

On top of that, the German superstar has three multi-point games over the six he has played this season. The conditions are strong for him to have a big game.

Kyle Connor to score 2+ points

The Winnipeg Jets had a stumble out of the gates to start the season, but they’re back on track with four straight victories. A big part of that has been the play of Kyle Connor, who has led the team with 13 points over seven games this season. He has points in every game played this season except one. Oddly enough, that was the Jets’ first game against the San Jose Sharks, who they’ll play Saturday night.

Connor has multiple points in four of his last five games and has been especially potent on the road with eight of his 13 points coming away. He’s not been especially productive against the Sharks, but Connor looks like he’s on track for a career year at this point. He’s such a focal point of the Jets offense.
