Johnny Gaudreau to score 2+ points 3.50

The Calgary Flames have been rolling and few have been playing as consistently well as star winger Johnny Gaudreau, who has points in all but two games this season, putting up 11 total points in nine games so far. With four multi-point games under his belt already, Gaudreau has been a handful for the opposition.

Gaudreau also was held off the score sheet in Tuesday night’s loss. The last time he didn’t score a point was opening night and he then rattled off three consecutive games with two points. He’s playing with a lot of jump and looks more like the guy that put up 99 points in 2018-19 than his lighter-producing years in the last two.

With Dallas struggling as they are and Gaudreau playing as well as he has, I like his chances of getting on the scoresheet a couple of times as my higher-risk, high-value bet for the player props.

Matthew Tkachuk to score 1+ point 1.70

We now know today that Jack Eichel was traded by the Buffalo Sabres. We also know that one of the two teams that were among the finalists for Eichel was Calgary. If you also believe the rumors that swirled, Tkachuk was among the players mentioned as being likely to be dealt. If I know the way Tkachuk plays, he’s going to have a little extra fire in his belly for this one.

Tkachuk has points in each of his last four games, including goals in three of four. I thought about an anytime goalscorer play for him, but went a little more conservative on this one. I just think we’re going to see Tkachuk come out especially motivated after hearing his name in trade rumors and being his normal, competitive self as the Flames look to bounce back from a rare loss.

Steven Stamkos anytime goal scorer

With five goals through his first nine games this season, Lightning captain Steven Stamkos is off to a great start. He’s also always done pretty well against the Maple Leafs over his career with 49 points in 41 games, including 20 goals.

I think the Lightning have a good chance to win that game in Toronto and I would not be surprised if it was their Ontario-born captain leading the way in those efforts.

Mike Hoffman, Mathew Barzal or Anders Lee to score 1+ goals 1.44

I’ve been playing around a bit with Betway’s player specials and for those of you that are interested in betting on some player props, these “either player to score a goal” props might be a fun point of entry for you. It gives you multiple chances to hit on the bet and there are a ton of different combinations available.

The one I chose seemed like it has the best chance of hitting as it takes two players from an Islanders squad I expect to come away with a win in Montreal, but it also includes one of Montreal’s better offensive players. Barzal has three goals through seven games this year, while Lee, who is a one-time 40-goal scorer in the league, has just one on the season so far and seems due for a breakout. Meanwhile, Hoffman has four goals through his first eight games with the Habs and has one of the better releases in the league.

While player props can be tricky in a sport as fluid and sometimes random as hockey, these types of bets can be a way to dip your toe in and see how it goes with three different chances to win.
