Winnipeg Jets to beat Montreal Canadiens 

With a 5-2-0 record against Montreal so far this season, including a win on Thursday night, the Jets have not had too many problems with the Canadiens, save for one game where they got blown out.

Montreal was actually the better team for large stretches of the game on Thursday, but Connor Hellebuyck, as he does so often for the Jets, made the difference with 36 saves.

The Jets are just one point behind Edmonton in the North Division standings for second place. They’ve also been one of the NHL’s best road teams all season with a 13-7-1 away record.

Montreal, meanwhile, is still trying to find consistency while goalie Carey Price’s status remains in limbo after he sat out the last two games. Jake Allen is expected to start again and, while he’s had better numbers than Price, he has lost eight of his last nine decisions.

The Jets have just been better of late and I would expect that to continue Saturday night in Montreal.

Toronto Maple Leafs to beat Ottawa Senators 

The Maple Leafs are on a five-game winning streak and have looked near unbeatable over that stretch. The Sens have given them some fits this season though as Toronto is just 4-2-1 against Ottawa so far.

Perhaps the biggest reason Toronto is going to be favored is Jack Campbell is expected to start. Toronto’s backup has been sensational this season as he set a franchise record for consecutive wins to start a season. The No. 2 goalie is now 10-0-0 with a .944 save percentage. He has two shutouts so far this season as well. Two of those 10 wins came against Ottawa and he has a .920 save percentage while allowing just four goals against over that span.

While the Sens have often been an intriguing value buy, they’ve lost five of their last six games. As the trade deadline nears, they could be selling off some pieces as well, so there might be some unsettled play from Ottawa on top of the matchup disadvantage.

Calgary Flames to beat Edmonton Oilers 

Every now and again I’ll play a hunch and Calgary is in a stretch now where they simply can’t get anything going. They’ve lost eight of their last 10 games and have given up quite a few goals in the process.

The coaching change that was supposed to help the Flames turn it around has not worked at this point, though Darryl Sutter has a multi-year deal and will be given time to make his impact.

The Oilers, however, had a pair of games in Ottawa where they didn’t play particularly well, but just managed to win both games. The Oilers are wrapping up a four-game road swing in Calgary, a team they’ve beaten in five of seven meetings so far this season.

I think the schedule sets up a little more favorably for Calgary being on home ice and having four days between games to get things right.

Boston Bruins to beat Philadelphia Flyers 

The Bruins have really improved over the last week with wins in three of their last four games. On top of that they’re 6-0-1 against Philadelphia so far this season, out-scoring the Flyers 30-17.

The Flyers have kept a lot of games close, but have lost four of their last five as their spiral out of playoff contention continues.

This is one where I just think the Bruins are more put together at the moment and are competing at a high level. Philadelphia has also been pretty average on home ice with an 8-8-3 record so far this season.

This seems like one of those games with two teams heading in opposite directions where the current momentum of the season favors the better team. The Bruins also have been excellent on the road this season with an 11-5-3 record.
