Boston Bruins to beat New York Rangers 

The Bruins have been struggling with consistency, especially since they got back from the outdoor game at Lake Tahoe. They’ve won three of their last eight games, but one of those games was an impressive 4-0 win over the Rangers on Thursday.

In that game, the Bruins showed their true quality with star players making contributions and backup netminder Jaroslav Halak earning a shutout to improve his save percentage to .927.

Halak will get the start again Saturday with Tuukka Rask still battling an undisclosed injury. He has not started two games this close together all season, but as one of the best backups in the game and a former starter himself, it should not be terribly troublesome for him.

The Bruins have had the Rangers’ number this year, winning four of the five contests between the two sides and out-scoring New York 14-9. Brad Marchand has been particularly dangerous against the Rangers this year with seven points over the five games against them, if you’re looking for player props.

The one thing to keep an eye on in this contest however, is that the Rangers may be getting Artemi Panarin back after he took a leave of absence from the team. The Rangers are a different team with him in the lineup, but they’re still missing starting goalie Igor Shesterkin who is out with injury. Despite Panarin being back, the Bruins still look like the good bet in this one.

Calgary Flames to beat Montreal Canadiens 

After earning a 2-1 win in Darryl Sutter’s first official game behind the bench with the Flames, it seems as though Calgary’s players got the wakeup call they needed. The Flames stifled the Canadiens’ offense and kept things pretty tight, which had to please Sutter, who wants his teams to be able to defend well.

The Flames have been one of the most maddeningly inconsistent teams in the league and their 12-12-3 record shows it. They have the talent to be way better than they have been and the addition of Sutter may allow them to bring that out more.

The Canadiens are still having some ups and downs since Dominique Ducharme replaced Claude Julien, but they haven’t lost consecutive games since Ducharme’s first two behind the bench. They’re going to be a tough out, but I think the Sutter factor is very real and Calgary’s players are going to be going all out to stay in their new coach’s good graces.

Winnipeg Jets to beat Toronto Maple Leafs 

In all three of the matchups between these two teams, there hasn’t been much separation. Toronto has routinely been the better team in terms of generating shots and scoring chances, but Winnipeg’s ace in the hole is goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. He almost stole them another game Thursday night before Toronto stunned the Jets in OT off of a spectacular Auston Matthews goal.

The Jets are 1-1-1 against the Leafs. With wins in seven of their last 10 games, they’ve been playing well enough and Hellebuyck has been the answer when they haven’t been at their best. The Jets goaltender has a .911 save percentage in all games, but a .921 mark against the Maple Leafs. But here’s the most important stat: The Jets goaltender has lost back-to-back starts only once so far this season. His response after his team loses is incredible.

I’d been riding the Leafs a lot this year, but this time I’m looking for the Jets netminder to bounce back even bigger to steal another win for his team.

Vancouver Canucks to beat Edmonton Oilers 

The situation for the Oilers in this game isn’t terribly ideal and the Canucks have played better the last week or so, even though they’re without star center Elias Pettersson.

The Oilers are on a four-game winning streak with their last three Ws coming against the Ottawa Senators at home. The Oilers then have to hop on a plane and get to Vancouver for a back-to-back start.

The Oilers have actually been very good in back-to-backs, but haven’t had too many where they had to travel for the second leg. That can take something out of a team, especially in this condensed schedule.

The Canucks, meanwhile, have won four of their last six games, including a pair against the Toronto Maple Leafs and have been at home for the last 10 days. This looks like the perfect chance for them to pounce on a weary Oilers team and take two points and provide some good value to bettors.
