Ottawa Senators to beat Montreal Canadiens 

Ottawa is in the midst of its best run this season with wins in six of their last eight games. They’ve also won five of eight games against Montreal this season.

The Habs, meanwhile, look like they’re limping into the playoffs. If they’re not careful, there’s still a chance Calgary could overtake them for that last playoff spot in the North. It’s not likely, but it’s still on the table.

So this turns out to be a pretty big game for Montreal, which pulled off an impressive win over Winnipeg on Friday night. That win allowed the Canadiens to get back to .500 in terms of points percentage on home ice. They are among the worst teams at home this season with an 11-11-2 record. However, they’re now facing a second half of a back-to-back against a team that has played them tough all year.

The Sens have essentially turned the team over to all the young guys and it’s working out so far. On top of that, the young veterans on the team like Brady Tkachuk have really stepped up. He has seven points in eight games against the Canadiens this season.

Ottawa is a team with nothing to lose, with a lot of young players who are hungry. That can be dangerous. With only two games left against Montreal, I expect them to finish the season series strong.

Toronto Maple Leafs to beat Vancouver Canucks 

The Maple Leafs are rolling and the Canucks are not. It’s as simple as that at this moment.

Vancouver has struggled mightily of late and it looks like the season has taken its toll on them. Not only that, there may be some lingering effects for the team after its COVID shutdown.

Toronto has won four straight games including a 4-1 win over Vancouver on Thursday. They have scored at least four goals in each of those games.

This might be one of those games where I look for some other bets to get a little more value out of it. Looking at the puck line or some Leafs-specific bets might not be a bad idea given how well they’ve played so far in the last week-plus, and how rough the Canucks have looked in their last few games, having lost four of their last five including three to the Ottawa Senators.

Edmonton Oilers to beat Calgary Flames 

The Flames stopped the Oilers dead in their tracks with a 3-1 win Thursday night. Edmonton had been coming off a convincing sweep of the Winnipeg Jets, but nothing is ever a given in the Battle of Alberta.

Saturday night’s game will be the last meeting between the Albertan rivals. The Flames still have a chance to reach the postseason, but it’s slim. They need a bunch of wins to close out the season and they need Montreal to continue in a tailspin. So this game is much, much bigger for Calgary than it is for Edmonton.

That makes the Flames dangerous, but it also makes the Oilers motivated. I’m sure Edmonton would love nothing more than to make that climb Calgary faces a little steeper. Meanwhile, Connor McDavid was held off the score sheet for the first time in about two weeks in Thursday’s game. He has 10 points in his last six contests. It’s hard to imagine him staying quiet in two straight in this season series.

The Flames will try to make the game boring, but you can only keep the Oilers down for so long and I don’t see them winning two straight here.

Nashville Predators to beat Dallas Stars 

In the night’s most critical game with playoff implications, the Predators and Stars will meet one last time. Nashville has just a two-point lead on Dallas, which also has a game in hand. This will be Nashville’s best chance to control their own destiny a bit more and make the climb to the postseason a bit tougher for Dallas.

The Stars, meanwhile, desperately need to win this game. They’ve had a tough season, but have played a lot better of late. Jamie Benn has been heating up and super rookie Jason Robertson has really impressed. They have the players to compete and make this happen.

Almost every single game between these teams except for two of them have been incredibly tight. Three have gone to a shootout and one went to overtime. Nashville won each of those close contacts. The Stars have won three in regulation.

It’s been almost a month since these two teams saw each other and Dallas has been rolling pretty well since that point.

In a game with so little between these teams, I’ll lean towards the home team. Nashville is 15-10-0 on home ice, which isn’t terribly impressive, but it also is better than they’ve done on the road. Dallas has been below-average as a road team as they’re in the bottom-third of the league with a .455 points percentage away from home.

Nashville can really help themselves out with a win here and I think they’ll do it.
