Nashville Predators to beat Chicago Blackhawks 

Nashville has been one of the league’s hottest teams with wins in eight of their last 10 games. Now they’ll welcome Chicago to the Music City with a chance to build a little bit of a bigger gap between themselves and the Blackhawks in the Central Division playoff race. These are two teams heading in opposite directions right now.

Chicago has struggled mightily of late with losses in seven of their last 10 games. Even some of the games they won they got outplayed and had to rely solely on the brilliant goaltending of rookie Kevin Lankinen. Less than a week removed from dropping a pair at home against the Predators, it’s hard to see Chicago going into a road matchup with a surging team and coming out with a win.

The Preds are missing several key players from the lineup, but they’ve had others step up. Rookie Eeli Tolvanen has been on fire of late with points in six of his last seven games. Juuse Saros has been excellent between the pipes, too, and has been especially dominant over his last seven starts.

This is a big game for both sides, but I’ve got to lean with the Preds based on how much better they’ve been than Chicago of late.

Montreal Canadiens to beat Ottawa Senators 

The Canadiens are in the midst of their most consistent run of the season to date with points in each of their last six games, including wins in three straight.

Over the course of those three wins, the Habs have scored at least four goals against three separate opponents – the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa. Montreal was simply better in Thursday night’s game against Ottawa and outclassed the Sens in their 4-1 victory.

Both of these clubs have won three games in this season series, with two of Ottawa’s wins coming via overtime or shootout. With Montreal riding a bit of a heater coming into this game - even though they’ve only been average on home ice - it’s hard to see them dropping off in Saturday’s contest.

The Senators don’t have the depth to derail the momentum Montreal has at the moment.

New York Islanders to beat Philadelphia Flyers 

The Isles have been virtually unbeatable at home with just one regulation loss to any team this season. That one team happens to be these very same Philadelphia Flyers. But the Flyers are coming off of an embarrassing 6-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, becoming the first team to lose to last-place Buffalo in over a month.

Normally I’d say such a game serves as a wakeup call, but after watching the Islanders dismantle the Washington Capitals on Thursday, this is a team playing at the top of its game right now.

The Isles got another five-point game out of Mathew Barzal, who has been incredible all season long. Now with 33 points in 37 games, the young Islanders star has been on a bit of a roll. He’s also picked up four points in five previous games against the Flyers so far this season.

After picking against the Isles in their last home game, I’m learning not to bet against them if they’re skating on Long Island ice. With New York sitting at 14-1-2 so far this season, there’s just not enough evidence that the Flyers are in any sort of shape to knock off one of the league’s best home team.

Vegas Golden Knights to beat Minnesota Wild 

After dropping a 3-2 shootout decision on Thursday, Vegas dropped two straight on home ice for the first time all season. Their home record slipped to a still-impressive 14-3-2. As good as Minnesota has been this last month, it’s hard to see them grabbing another win in Vegas.

The Golden Knights had the advantage in a few significant categories on Thursday night, too. Vegas had a possession advantage, a scoring-chance advantage and the two teams were basically even when it came to expected goals.

Wild goalie Cam Talbot proved to be the difference in the game, making several goal-stealing stops that will be on highlight reels all season. The fact that it took a Herculean goaltending effort from the veteran to get the win leads me to believe the Golden Knights will be able to break through a bit more if they can maintain the kind of possession and scoring chances they had Thursday.
