Montreal Canadiens to beat Ottawa Senators 

The Canadiens are scuffling right now. Winless in seven of their last eight games, including five straight and each of its last two since firing Claude Julien, things need to turn around in a hurry for Montreal.

They might have gotten some help from the schedule to do it, though, as the Habs have had two days between games to get things right and regroup at home.

The Senators, meanwhile, will be on the second half of a back-to-back and had to travel on top of that.

Ottawa is in the midst of their best stretch of the season. The Senators have won six of their last nine games, including a pair against the Canadiens that ultimately ended Julien’s tenure in Montreal. So, this young team is definitely coming in hot.

While the Sens are rolling, they have the worst road record in the NHL at 3-9-0 and have a minus-27 goal differential as the away side. Even though they just rolled over the Flames, this could very well end up as a schedule loss for Ottawa.

Winnipeg Jets to beat Vancouver Canucks 

Maybe the Jets were due for a clunker, like the one they played Monday night against the Canucks. Losing 4-0 to a team that has been especially porous this year makes the Jets a little more dangerous in the back end. The bounce-back game feels inevitable.

For whatever reason, the Canucks have given Winnipeg some trouble as the two clubs have split their four games to date. However, the Jets have only lost consecutive games on one other occasion this season and, with Edmonton right in front of them in the standings, there are some valuable points on the board Tuesday for the Jets.

This one might be more on the Canucks inability to string wins together this year. Aside from a four-game winning streak in late January that included three wins over Ottawa, the Canucks have not managed to win consecutive games. They also have lost each of the second legs of their back-to-backs this season.

Meanwhile, the Canucks will go with Thatcher Demko on short rest or Braden Holtby who has struggled mightily this year, which definitely looks advantageous for Winnipeg.

Nashville Predators to beat Carolina Hurricanes 

There’s no doubt the Hurricanes are the better team on paper, but the circumstances in this particular contest may favor the heating-up Predators.

Carolina is coming off of a big-time sweep of division leaders Florida after a four-game set with Tampa Bay where they went 1-3.

Having played overtime the night before and then having to travel to take on a Nashville team that got a day of rest and hasn’t been on the road in almost a week, this might be a good opportunity to find some value in the Preds.

Nashville have won four of their last five games, though those contests came against the bottom two teams in the Central: Columbus and Detroit.

As well as that momentum coming into this game, Filip Forsberg has been a point-per-game player for the last month, while Pekka Rinne has stabilized more with a .928 save percentage over seven starts in February.

Pittsburgh Penguins to beat Philadelphia Flyers 

The Flyers took the first two games of this series way back during opening week and are riding a three-game winning streak after dropping the outdoor game at Lake Tahoe to the Bruins. They’re rolling a bit, but they’ll be running into a Penguins squad that has lost just one game on home ice and will still be smarting from a 2-0 loss to the Islanders on Sunday.

The Pens are still dealing with a few injuries while the Flyers are getting healthier, which makes this a trickier game to pick. Even at full strength, beating the Pens at home has been a tall order for any team this season. Pittsburgh is 7-1-0 while outscoring opponents 28-21 at home, so they haven’t been outright dominant, but they keep finding ways to win so I find it hard to pick against them at home.

Meanwhile, Jake Guentzel, Kris Letang and Sidney Crosby are all at or near a point per game in the last month, and goalie Tristan Jarry has been much more reliable over his last eight starts, posting a .915 save percentage on his way to a 5-3-0 record.

On the other side, the Flyers are trying to get Carter Hart going - he still has a sub-.900 save percentage through 12 appearances.
