Who would have called that we’d be where we are today? Not only that four southern NHL teams are in the final four of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but through five games, every single game has been won by a single goal. The Vegas Golden Knights look to copy the Florida Panthers tonight and take a stranglehold on their series, but whether or not they can do it is the big question.
Dallas Stars to win & under 7.5 goals
The Dallas Stars are heavy favourites to win this game as they head back home with a 2-0 series deficit. It’s pretty rare for teams who get this far in the playoffs to go down 3-0, but the pressure is on anyway.
This series has been extremely tight, with both games in Vegas featuring late game-tying goals that sent us into overtime, but Vegas came out on top in both of those. Expect a very tight matchup between two strong teams that play with a lot of structure, so the scoring shouldn’t get out of hand. This time, Dallas has to find a way to win.
Jason Robertson to score anytime
For the first two rounds of these playoffs, Robertson played well and put some shots on goal, but he wasn’t scoring. Against Vegas, he’s been able to finally find twine, and the 46-goal scorer might be on a little bit of a tear now with two goals in two games.
As a career 15.7 per cent shooter, Robertson could easily have nearly double the goal total he has so far in the postseason, so the exceptionally talented forward is due to keep up this kind of scoring for a while yet. That may be the key to the Stars coming back in this series.
Wyatt Johnston to score anytime
The young rookie just turned 20 years old less than two weeks ago, and has yet to make his presence truly felt in this series so far, despite putting 10 shots on net in just 33 minutes of ice time through the first two games.
Johnston has a knack for scoring big goals, and seems to still be flying under the radar a little bit after a very strong rookie campaign. He’s a player to watch going forward in this league, and going forward in this series.
Mark Stone & Roope Hintz to both score 1+ points
Two of the most prolific point producers on their respective teams showing up in a massive game for both franchises seems like a pretty good bet to me. Stone is in a bigger defensive role overall and not on the top scoring line right now, but he’s always a threat.
Roope Hintz is the best point producer in the playoffs this year, with 22 in 15 games, including an excellent 10 goals, also leading all remaining players. It's never a bad bet to go with either of these guys getting on the scoreboard.
