Tonga (+41)

Tonga were thrashed 92-7 by New Zealand in their final warm-up game two weeks ago, but such a wide margin of defeat is unlikely here.

The Pacific Islanders did not lose a game by more than 38 points at the last World Cup, with their group containing both New Zealand and Argentina.

Winning margin: England 21-30

England should ease to an opening victory in Sapporo, but opening match nerves are likely to mean they will struggle to really cut loose.

This looks likely to follow a similar pattern to their opening game of the 2015 World Cup, a 35-11 win over Fiji.

Time of first try: Before 16 minutes

England tend to be involved in fast-starting World Cup openers, with this landing in four of their last five.

There were also early tries in two of their four warm-up matches, coming against significantly stronger opposition than Tonga.

To score 2 or more tries: Jonny May

May has established himself as a regular starter for England and will take his place on the left flank against Tonga.

The winger has scored 24 tries in 46 international starts and is a good bet to add at least two to that tally on Sunday.

Anytime tryscorer: Manu Tuilagi

Tuilagi has resurrected his international career after addressing his injury and disciplinary issues.

The 28-year-old did not feature in England’s final warm-up match but will start at outside centre after scoring his 14th international try against Ireland in August.
