The favourites

There is only one favourite worth considering to win the men’s singles title in July – five-time champion Novak Djokovic .

The Serb has won both of the last two titles at SW17, and four of the last six, to establish himself as by far the game’s best grass-court player.

Lifting the trophy next month would also put Djokovic level with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on 20 Grand Slam titles, earning him a slice of history that nobody could dispute is undeserved.

Victory at the US Open in September would then mean that there is a strong case that he is the sport’s greatest player of all time.

The world No. 1, who also beat Rafa Nadal in the French Open final earlier in June, has been handed a favourable draw, too.

He will only need to beat a maximum of one of Daniil Medvedev, Federer, Matteo Berrettini and Alexander Zverev – four of the next five favourites – to win the tournament.

The outsiders

Berrettini won Queen’s last week and has established himself as a well-fancied runner for Wimbledon, despite only reaching his second Grand Slam quarter-final at the French Open a few weeks ago.

The Italian has only been beaten by Djokovic, Medvedev, Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas since January, winning the Serbia Open and reaching the final of the Madrid Open before his success in London last week.

A run to the quarter-finals seems likely, but he will have to beat a more illustrious opponent to progress further.

An each-way winner seems far more likely to come from the bottom half of the draw – away from Djokovic – and another possibility could be Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime .

He has reached the fourth round of his last two non-clay slams, beat Roger Federer at Halle last week, and is priced at a juicy 50/1.
