Back to win: Novak Djokovic

Who else?

Djokovic is looking as dominant as ever coming into Wimbledon, having already won the Australian and French Open this year.

Those victories have taken him past Rafael Nadal for the most men’s singles Grand Slam titles with 23, and he has the chance to extend that record further in SW19, with Nadal absent through injury.

Not only that, but Djokovic also continues his bid to become just the sixth singles player in history to win the Calendar Slam, and the first since Steffi Graf in 1988.

He has lost his No. 1 seeding for Wimbledon after Carlos Alcaraz won at Queen’s, but that shouldn’t pose too much of an issue.

The biggest threats on his side of the draw are Casper Ruud, who he dispatched in three sets in the French Open final, and Holger Rune, who does hold two wins over Djokovic but has a poor record on grass, losing four of his seven career games on the surface.

The other question mark is Djokovic’s decision to not play any competitive tennis between the French Open and Wimbledon, but with an 86 per cent win rate on grass – his highest on any surface –  he shouldn’t need much preparation.

The value isn’t great on Djokovic, but he’s the clear favourite for a reason.

Each-way shout: Daniil Medvedev

Medvedev is the third favourite to win the men’s singles but represents great value at 14/1, and could be worth an each-way bet.

The Russian is coming off a couple of disappointing tournaments, losing in the first round at Roland Garros before failing to make any impression at the Libema and Halle Opens, both on grass.

He has, however, already won five tournaments in 2023, including ATP 1000 victories in Miami and Rome.

Being seeded third, he will avoid Djokovic until the final and, if he does make it that far, you’re already guaranteed a return on an each-way bet.

If he was to meet Djokovic in the final, he has a very decent head-to-head record against the Serb, with five previous wins, including their most recent meeting in the Dubai Open semi-finals in March.
