Deiveson Figueiredo underlined his status as the new flyweight king with a first-round submission of the highly-rated Alex Perez in his last fight at UFC 255.

Now, just 21 days later, he will attempt to break the record for quickest consecutive UFC title defences against No.1-ranked Brandon Moreno.

Moreno has also had just three weeks to prepare for this one after a first-round knockout of Brandon Royval at the same event.

The Assassin Baby has won four of his last five fights to secure his first shot at a UFC title on Saturday, but will head to the Octagon as a significant underdog.

Figueiredo has now secured a finish in each of his last four bouts, and in seven of his 10 fights in the UFC.

That streak sees God of War enter his second title defence as a favourite.

Figueiredo v Moreno prediction:

Figueiredo is an imposing presence at 125lb and the way in which he has dominated his last four fights suggests he could be at the top of the division for a long time.

When he first became a UFC contender, focus centred on his heavy hands and ability to overpower his opponents on the feet.

But Figueiredo has proved in his last two fights that he is a force on the ground as well, with the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt choking out Joseph Benavidez and Perez – both in the opening five minutes.

Unfortunately for Moreno, taking the fight to the ground is his clearest path to victory – the Mexican has 10 professional wins by submission and made his name as a BJJ specialist.

Even if he finds some success on the mat it’s hard to see him finishing the champion, who has never lost inside the distance.

Figueiredo is, however, unlikely to find Moreno as accommodating as his last two opponents.

Moreno is as durable as they come at 125lb – he, too, has never been finished in his professional career.

That is likely to change on Saturday, but a third successive first-round finish looks a tough ask for the champion.

Instead, expect this one to be God of War’s longest title fight yet – Benavidez took him to the middle of the second in their first meeting – with a bet on the fight going past the second round looking tempting at .
