Miocic v Cormier 3 odds

The main event of UFC 252 sees heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic defend his title against former champion Daniel Cormier.

This is the third meeting between the pair since July 2018. Cormier knocked out Miocic in the first meeting to take the title and become a two-weight champion, before Miocic gained revenge with a TKO win of his own in August 2019 to retake the belt.

These are clearly the two best heavyweights in the UFC and certainly two of the best ever, so victory will be huge for either man’s legacy on Saturday night.

It’s no surprise, then, that this is essentially a 50-50 fight.

Cormier – who will retire after this bout – is currently the narrow favourite, while the champion is currently to successfully defend his title.

Miocic v Cormier 3 prediction

The fourth round of the last fight between these two heavyweights should provide the clearest indication of how this trilogy bout is going to go.

Up until that point, Cormier clearly had the advantage.

After winning the first fight by first-round knockout, DC dominated the early exchanges in the rematch with relentless forward pressure and the constant threat of his excellent wrestling.

Miocic fought off the back foot and took plenty of damage, but started to come on strong after the third round and then made the decisive tactical tweak that won him the fight.

He began digging left hooks into Cormier’s body, forcing him to drop his hands and opening the gap for Miocic to land the right hand that finished the fight.

Cormier always carries plenty of timber on fight night, so Miocic has a big target to aim at with those body shots and it’s hard to see how the challenger is going to be able to stop them this time around.

Miocic will have to eat a few big shots, defend some takedowns and soak up pressure, but this fight should become another war of attrition that goes beyond three rounds.

That’s where Cormier should begin to tire and Miocic can take control once again.

Although he suffered an early KO in the first meeting back in 2018, the champion was possibly still feeling the effects of a five-round title fight with Francis Ngannou just a few months earlier and looked far more capable of dealing with DC’s power in the rematch.

With an entire year having passed since he got revenge on Cormier, Miocic looks a good bet to earn another stoppage victory and spoil the challenger’s retirement party.
